Ye shall be as gods

The entire video is worth watching.

I disagree with the multiverse business, mainly because the universe is supposed to mean “everything there is”, and secondly because of the lack of evidence. But that’s not what I want to focus on here.

The Video

The main point is in the introduction of the video, where he mentions that

Long distance communication in the year 1900 was yelling at your neighbor and yet, if they could see you now, with iPads and iPods and satellites and GPS and laser beams,
how would they view you?

They may view you as a wizard or sorcerer.

However, if we can now meet our grand kids of the year 2100, how would we view them?

We would view them as gods like in Greek mythology.

Zeus could control objects around him by pure thought, materialize objects just by thinking, and there are perks to being a Greek god. Venus had a perfect body, a timeless body, and we are beginning now to unravel the genetics at the molecular level of the aging process. And then Apollo, he had a chariot that he could ride across the heavens. We will finally have that flying car that we have always wanted to have in our garage by the year 2100.

We will have the power of the gods.

Well, well , well.

As is it written:

Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”’?  If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” Therefore they sought again to seize Him, but He escaped out of their hand. – John 10:34-39

And so we are on track to get a lot of power… over the material world.

But I doubt that we have gained much power over our lusts for power over each other.

So, what’s next?

FIRST, there are always men that want to shed blood, and kill everyone in sight while shouting something about God or Equality or Allah or the Nation. However, these well-mannered killers will continue to decline in power and authority, even as technology continues to soar and privacy becomes a thing of the past. The European empires are no more, and the American empire draws ever-closer to bankruptcy. The Chinese Empire continues to hold together due to the promise of prosperity, but when there is no one to sell to – thanks to American and European bankruptcy – watch out!

So, the future does not belong to some ruling power elite. Not with the spread of information – yes, even in China – and increasingly the spread of manufacturing technology.

SECOND, in this generation, and a few generations into the future, a lot of men will be effectively sterile. They will choose homosexuality, or robotic sex, or pornography, or virtual sex, instead of actually marring a woman and raising a family. One of the key factors that mark today as a different day than all other days – besides the free flow of information, the ever-falling cost of effective weapons, and the steady delegitimization of Our Masters – is the simple fact that bearing and raising children is a choice.

(And yes, homosexuality is a choice.)

Who will choose to bear children? If you are ageless and have the ability to make 72 sex robots for your every whim, are you going to risk everything by raising a son – someone who will know your secrets, think in a non-programmed, creative manner, and could hurt you like no one else?

The Muslims will say, God has no son.

But Christians know, God isn’t a gelded eunuch… and heaven isn’t a bordello, existing to service Man.

Many Rational Men – not all, and perhaps not even most nowadays – will continue to adore the State, even as that vicious and cruel idol falls apart before their very eyes. Boo, hoo. And afterwards, when there is no longer any possibility of a select elite directing and destroying the lives of millions.

Well, the sexbots await.

Or perhaps they’ll just rig up electrodes to their pleasure centres, set up IV food drips, and just live as disembodied minds, perfectly happy, and completely safe and isolated from the real world.

So, then, what should Christians do, should they – in 2100 or so – gain the power of the Greek Gods?

FIRST, thank God – rather than some mass-murdering (or at least mass-thieving) secular state with its thirst for power and contempt for law and life – for this great power to do what is right and pleasing in His eyes. Then, head to the Bible to figure out what He wants us to do – as individuals, as families, as churches. We all know the thumbnail sketch – Love God, Love People – but it’s going to be important to work out the details. Especially as everything will have to be done in a voluntarily basis: the State works by control of information, control of the money, and by men with guns, and all three forms of power are eroding away at an increasing rate.

SECOND, If you have read my 40-page book Across the Stars: A View of the Distant Future, you know that I am pushing for a terraforming civilization, that will spread life to the stars. But that’s long term, at least a thousand years. We are going to have to learn to live together as a community first, in love and compassion. Sadly, I have to point to Shinto/Buddhist Japan as the best current example of a large, loving community right now: a people who look out for each other after an earthquake, rather than try to kill and loot each other.

(Yes, this means that we as believers have disgraced God. WE are the ones who the world is supposed to say, “Look how they love each other!” But, this is obviously not true: to the glory of the fake nature gods of Japan, and to the shame of those who say they worship the Creator, not the Creation.

It will be a good day, when Christian action match Christian words, and we truly treat Christ as our true Law-King, not Money or Popularity or Safety or Comfort, or even Mommy or Daddy, President or Pastor, Husband or Wife.)

THIRD, after we can consistently treat each other as we should treat Christ, THEN we can figure out what we should do with vast but finite lifespans. (True Immortality will remain in the hands of God.)

While I love the idea of spreading life and seeing the universe, there may well be other ideas, perhaps even better ones. We are going to need them all, and then sort out who will volunteer to do what. Hierarchy is inevitable, but our hierarchies are to follow Christ: you choose your goal, and you choose who you want to work with (but you don’t get to choose who wants to work with you.)

I can’t go more into detail now, as I can’t guess what we can really do with near-godly powers at our fingertips. (Perhaps even up to resurrecting the dead – as Jesus did – but not to creation ex nhilo. Perfect foreknowledge of the future? I doubt it, but we’ll see.) All I know is that God will be watching us as always – rewarding the obedient with more honour and authority, and damning the disobedient with sterility, fearfulness, and death.
