I strongly believe that humanity should expand to the stars.
But, I personally doubt if we will do so before the Second Coming.
For one thing, terraforming lifeless worlds is a serious commitment of time and resources, that demand a great deal of far-sightedness….
…but why would any government or society do that – be it Christian, Islamic, Atheistic, or otherwise – when it can use all that wealth and money to enslave and gang-rape its neighbours, and boast of its Mighty Military Power? It’s a lot more fun – as any Visionary Conqueror could tell you – and you’re sure to get the hosannas of both the public and the cognitive elite.
Rome loves a winner, after all.
And it’s a lot more fun than putting the blood, sweat and tears, labourously bringing a dead world to life, for minimal returns for decades, maybe even centuries.
Did any society have the dedication to commit and complete such a monumental task in all of human history?
I believe that the heavens will eventually be granted to us… after the Second Coming – which, even as a postmillennialist (who believes that things will get better over time, in a three-steps-forward, two-steps back sort of way), I assume is thousands of generations away (see quotes for details). Until then, men will continue to focus on immediate access to pleasure and power, with the occasional public celebration of hatred for the Maker of the Stars.
“Gotta keep the power in the hands of the Mighty Men, after all!”
Men that – as any materialist could tell you – you can really see and touch, and enjoy playing with real guns and electric cattle prods that you can also see and touch.
But I still refuse to put my trust in Mighty Men.
8 But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
10 And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face. – Deuteronomy 7:8-10 (KJV)
7 He is the Lord our God: his judgments are in all the earth.
8 He hath remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. – Psalm 105:7-9 (KJV)
How to Terraform the Moon – it would end up a lot like Florida, supposedly.
And – for our Rational Friends, who know for a fact that a man’s life is worth exactly as much as a housefly’s in this Vast and Meaningless universe of ours…

I have always felt that atheism was invented solely to expand the rule and authority of Our Masters. Still, it could never has flourished as it did without the vigorous support of uncounted Christians – especially clergy.
After all, when Darwin initially got going, most of the scientists of his era disagreed – but the Establishment Priesthood agreed with him.
[But I admit, no Rationalist truly believes that his life, personally, is worth as much as a housefly. Instead, this radical destruction of the worth of a man is only really aimed at what the Bible says about human beings.
The real goal is to shift the right to decide the worth of a man’s life from God’s throne to the Hand of Dear Leader – and the bureaucracy that serves him.]
