Wail of Our Masters

Reading the Washington Post complaint against Facebook, and Bloomberg’s cry against the Internet in general, you’d think that the wrong sort of information and news was an over-the-top threat against The Established Democratic Order.

You’d be right. Too much unguarded truth is devastating to idols.

In the old days, the answer was simple: kill the prophets. But now, the truth is far more dispersed, far more difficult to control, and outside the reach of any single government – in most cases, even the NSA.

Couple this with the coming death of newspapers and broadcast TV, as noted in “Extra! Extra! Print Newspapers Are in Intensive Care!” and it’s obvious that Our Lords and Masters are on their way out.

It’s going to take a few decades for the whole thing to crater, but the trendlines are clear and unmistakable.
