Over and over, premillennialists accuse postmillennialists of having too much confidence in man. This is really astounding, when you think about it, because all the primary defenders of modern postmillennialism have been Calvinists, and usually followers of Van Til. Normally, nobody accuses Calvinists of having too elevated a view of man, what with the Calvinists’ doctrine of man’s total depravity and fallen man’s inability to respond in faith to the gospel without God’s predestinating irresistible grace to force conversions. Postmillennialists are not arguing for confidence in “mankind as such.” They are only arguing for the increasing long-term influence in history of regenerate, covenantally faithful people compared to unregenerate, covenantally rebellious people. What the amillennialists and premillenialists argue is the opposite: the steadily increasing long-term authority in history of unregenerate, covenantally rebellious people compared to regenerate, covenantally faithful people. It is not “confidence in man” that is the basis of postmillennial optimism; it is confidence in the covenantal faithfulness of God in rewarding covenant-keepers (Deut. 28:1-14) and punishing covenant-breakers (Deut. 28:15-68).
To the astonishment of premillennialists, amillennialists, and atheists everywhere (nevermind Muslims!), God blesses those who bless and obey His Son, Jesus Christ… while the enemies of His Son, all those who resist His expanding and deepening rule in time and on earth, are blighted, punished, damned to a greater or lesser extent.
I recommend that the premillennialists & millennialists look at how God has chosen to reward their lack of faith in His victory, power, and authority over all things, not just the private beliefs of a minority of men. It’s long past time to get with the program that Christ explicitly laid out, at the end of His ministry:
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. — Matthew 28:18-20
Not only Muslims are turning to faith in Christ, after observing how God has cursed their societies: Buddhists are also turning from darkness to light. I fully expect to see India move in competition with China, in seeking the benefits and blessings of obedience to King Jesus.
God is a forgiving God, and is well capable of restoring and renewing rebellious nations, as well as rebellious individual men. This is what He wants!
God wants men – from every nation, every race, every tongue, every land – to obey Him, and be richly rewarded for doing so. In time, and on earth, and with increasing waves of rewards and blessings for consistent obedience, and even increased righteousness.
Why stand in His way?
You do know what happens to anyone, any spirit, any nation, that stands in His way…?
