Dying and Thinking

One of our biggest challenges as postmillennialists is to educate Christians. The Christian needs to be challenged with the true definition of postmillennialism so that he can be given the biblical argument for this glorious hope.

Unfortunately, the lawyer’s maxim holds true in the dispensationalist debate with postmillennialists: “If you can’t pound the facts, pound the table.” The dispensational naivete is such that by going around and saying the there is not single passage of Scripture that teaches postmillennialism one can persuade the simple. And sadly, the church today is full of simple people. As atheist Bertrand Russell once charged: “Christians would rather die than think. In fact, they do.”

Kenneth J. Gentry, Postmillennial Worldview

That is self-evidentally true, seeing how eager Christians are to get Free Stuff from their smiling enemies, and hand their children over to be educated by schools who have nothing but contempt for them, their culture, and their religion.

But I can hear the cry rise up, from both conservatives and liberals alike:

“But the Experts have been certified by schools that were created by the Experts, so we MUST obey them! The Experts Say So!

In other words,

“Christians would rather die than think.
In fact, they do.”

Well, not much can be done who are willing to sell their birthright and their future (that they can’t see and enjoy immediately) for a bowl of pottage and more me-time right now (that they can see and enjoy immediately).

But I am interested in those who aren’t interested in going down the road to compulsive failure and failed prophecies, over and over again, without learning a thing as their churches, numbers, culture, and influence dries up, withers, and fades away.

*waves to the premillennialists…
and the conservatives, too!*

For those Christians who are willing to learn from their failures… it’s time to start thinking.

A much better alternative to dying off and blowing away, in my book.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:7, English Standard Version

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

James 1:5, English Standard Version

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

Proverbs 2, King James Version
